Bears, bugs, and burdens

August 2011

Special visitors:
A mama bear and two cubs came to visit right outside the front door of my cabin. I was probably within five feet of the trio. They found the animal crackers in the trash can. The bears ended up hanging around for a while until the maintenance men brought a dog to chase them back into the woods. There is never a dull moment here at camp!

I can’t possibly have a bug in my ear!
At two in the morning, I sat up straight in bed and started shaking my head because a bug had crawled into my ear canal. It was actually pushing against my ear drum. I ended up at the nurses’ station where she tried to dislodge the bug with peroxide. Since that did not work, she began to irrigate my ear with water. Out came a little green leaf bug with red eyes. After thinking about the whole adventure, I realized that the Lord had watched over me. If I had been anywhere other than camp, I probably would have ended up in the ER.

The Heart of my Camper
This week I had older girls in my cabin. One girl was a high school graduate, seven girls were going into eleventh grade, and one tenth grader. It was one of the best weeks, yet one of the most heart wrenching weeks at the same time. On Monday night I gave my girls a survey and asked them if God showed them something in their life that needed to be changed, were they willing to change it? One of my girls answered no and she was not willing to discuss it with me. My heart was burdened for her which kept me in constant state of prayer throughout the week. To my knowledge, she never did surrender fully to the Lord, but I know that the Lord is not finished with her yet. I am thankful that she said even though she has been at camp for many years, this was the best week she had ever had. Please pray with me that God will continue to soften her heart and changer her life!
